My Cognition of the Position of Law
Before going to law firm for internship, I have imagined the image of a lawyer for thousands of times. What kind of occupational group does lawyer belong to? The image on my mind is: he is supposed to be in Western dress and leather shoes, with an imposing appearance and the personality of shrewd and sagacity and is busy entering and leaving the luxurious office buildings; and then he will meet his client in the bright and clean office and talk to him with clear logic and uncommon insight… After all, I just imagine that, or another word, it is the fantastic scene and image of a soap operas and movies. And my true cognition of a lawyer is gained through the internship in Jianjia Law Firm. They are all cautious and conscientious lawyers with diligent spirits and guide me in both genial and responsible manner.
In this warm law firm, I spend 2 months time, not too long, no too short. To regard it long is because as a student, it is as long as a whole summer vacation and a half semester if measures it in the school ways; to treat it as short for that every day I would learn much and feel much just as live in a big warm family. How time flies! I feel like that I was just here yesterday despite the fact that I will leave today with a deep sorrow in my heart.
I begin to realize the mission of a lawyer in this place. Lawyer is an essential part of the society, because he or she is the advocator and propagator of the fairness of society. In a society with a rule of law, lawyer as a position is noble and sacred for that it is the indispensable occupational group that maintains liberty, justice and fairness, as well as the accelerator of boosting the process of social democracy under the rule of law.
I start to understand the value of lawyer in this place. Everyone living in the world has his or her value. No matter this value is great or a little, it is a meaningful existence. Just as the philosophy admits that life value mainly reflects in two aspects: one is for the social value of the individual, which means the individual contribution to the society; the other is for self-worth, which means the respect and satisfaction that the society shows to individuals. And it is also true for a lawyer. A good lawyer has a united social value and self-worth. Furthermore, a successful lawyer can always handle the two values well. Although Jianjia Law Firm is just a newly-established one in August, 2008, it has been taking an active part in programs for public good and excluding the difficulty and anxiety for the public within its power. On Dec. 4th, 2010, lawyers in Jianjia Law Firm were guests in the law consulting hotline of Tianjin Daily Mansion, offering free legal advice in details to citizens aiming at labor dispute. They are also warmhearted to provide free but professional guidance in the operational process in the late stage. It touched me a lot, since how many people can still insist on their belief and devote themselves in front of the interests. However, lawyers in Jianjia make it, which also is determined by the cultural atmosphere of a law firm.
I set out to understand only in the name of enthusiasm cannot be competent a lawyer. As an excellent lawyer, first one should update one’s knowledge quickly with a wide scope, because the laws and regulation of China’s speed of updating is very fast. Second, one should learn to communicate with others. In China, one should make a sufficient understand of the client rather than just being glib. One should know others’ thoughts and speak what others want to express. Meanwhile, one must be concise in word to fully explain one’s own idea. Third, one should be careful, the basic require for a lawyer. Facing the complicated work every day, one must be meticulous so that one can avoid some mistakes. One false step will make a great difference. Without the guarantee of attentiveness, a lawyer cannot have high quality when deals with a case, as well as obtain the approval from the client. As a result, the image of a lawyer and his law firm cannot be maintained.
The days of internship is just like a shooting star; after a glance if a passing beauty, it hides behind the backdrop of the sky, leaving a beautiful picture for people. The days when I stayed in Jianjia is ths same, leaving my college life great treasure.
